As you take the time to grieve, we also want to guide you through the necessary practical steps to adjust your employee benefits and access support services. From bereavement time to life insurance claims, here is essential information to help you during this challenging period.
Take time to grieve.
Full-time associates are eligible for up to five days of bereavement time. To learnmore, review the Incidental Time-Off policies located on JCPenney Benefitswebsite > Benefits Library.
Open a life insurance claim.
If your covered spouse or dependent passes, start a life insurance claim by calling the JCPenney Benefits Center.

Get support through the grief.
Resources for Living, the JCPenney Employee Assistance Program is here to help support you through the grieving process. All JCPenney associates and their dependents can receive free, confidential assistance from licensed counselors who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also receive up to six free in-person or virtual visits per issue, per year. If you need more care and are enrolled in a JCPenney medical plan, additional counseling may be available to you.
Benefits Revisions
Taking steps to update your employee benefits can ensure your financial house is in order during this trying time. From healthcare coverage to beneficiary designations, follow these steps to make the necessary adjustments to your JCPenney Benefits to better align with your new circumstances.
Update your JCPenney benefit coverage.
Contact the JCPenney Benefits Center for assistance with removing your loved one from your health and welfare coverage.

Review your life insurance, AD&D insurance, and your 401(k) plan to update your beneficiary designation if needed. Consider seeking legal counsel before designating a minor as a beneficiary due to limitations payouts of life and AD&D policies to minors.
